Summer + Bobby = Engaged

The only thing I love more than meeting couples like Summer and Bobby is spending time photographing them. There is always such a special quality to that time when the love shared by the couple is so obvious. That was the case when I first met them to talk about their September wedding (Summer can’t wait!— Me either!) and was equally so when we met last Sunday on a warm Spring day.

Just a few from our time together…

Steve & Jessica

Filed under Engagement Photography,Wedding Photography Tags: — • Written by Daniel @ 5:07 pm

Spring and Fall are my favorite times of year. You just can’t beat the colors or the nice cool temperatures. Having a cool couple to shoot during both those times is just icing. Steve and Jessica are one of my October weddings this year. And I assure you, they are VERY cool. (Especially Steve!)

We met downtown on a nice cool April Sunday, and spent some time at the Capitol, and then wondered down Main St. Where we found an interesting surprise. It was a fun day, with a great couple and three very happy dogs!

Oh.. Just a word on this little surprise we found. You could say that Steve is HUGE fan of CAT. While we were walking, he happened to see this GIANT generator made by CAT. As you can see, Jessica quite played along. (I told you they were cool!)

Contest Results – And the Winner is….

Hey! I said that I’m announcing the winner on MONDAY, Feb 1st. This is simply announcing the end to the competition. I truly wanted to thank each and every one of you who participated! (Even those who “participated” 5,6,7, or 8, times.) Comments received AFTER 2:00 pm EDT Sunday Jan 31st (by MY watch), will be very much appreciated, but they aren’t going to count.

The winners of the portrait sessions will be notified very soon. If you have not seen the details of the prizes – The Baker’s Dozen Contest details.

I’ve begun tallying the votes, (including deleting the many, uh, “enthusiastic” 2nd, 3rd, and 4th votes from the same persons..) and I’ll post the winner Monday morning.

As a quick side note, I asked a number of my photographic colleagues to vote on their favorite image. (Their votes did not count toward the contest results.) Their choice, due largely to the composition and warmth of the light, was this one:

Sarah + Brad = Engagement

My October couple is the very lovely Sarah and her loving groom,  Brad.  Rather than watch all those boring football games (all of them) Brad accompanied  Sarah out for their engagement session.  He quietly took his revenge by playfully coaxing me toward a 20 ft shear drop off,  while I tried to get the perfect shot of both of them, and later deftly failed to mention the dog poo only inches from my head during another shot.

It was all in fun and he was a great sport.  And with a bride to be as truly charming as Sarah, it’s easy to see why.

Just a couple from the day…

J + R :: Engagement

This is my second post about Joye and Randy. The first post appears to have disappeared when it was supposed to appear in November. Go figure. It’s ok though, these two are worth the extra typing.

Sometimes you just know it when a couple is right for each other. It’s more than just the snuggle together touchiness. It’s the way they play together, the way their humor compliments each other. Always nice to and even nicer to be a part of.

Here’s a couple from the day we spent together in Saluda Shoals Park.

Alicia + Phil in the Wild

Filed under Engagement Photography,Portraiture,Wedding Photography Tags: — • Written by Daniel @ 1:31 pm

I’ve been trying for MONTHS to get a couple, any couple to choose the Riverbanks Zoo as the location for their engagement session. So far, no takers. But along comes Alicia and Phil. The moment I mentioned it, Alicia was all for it. (I love a pioneer!!) So we decided that some time in the fall would be nice since it wouldn’t be 110 degrees.

Last Sunday, was the date. It was a great one. The Zoo was practically empty, and we really had much of the place to ourselves. A lot of beauty and love mixed with a little silliness and fun always creates a wonderful atmosphere. And this couple made it all work together.

A few from the day…

Note the VERY large vulture in the background just off of Phil’s shoulder. I don’t think Alicia’s expression could better!

Two From June Become One

In June I shot Bob and Faith’s engagement session. On a cool evening in October, I met again with this wonderful couple to shoot their wedding. It was presided over by her son (whose wedding I also shot…) and held in their lovely, painstakingly lanscaped backyard. Attended by close friends and family, it was an amazing and intimate ceremony. A string quartet added beautifully to the class and timelessness of the day.

Here is a quick peek.

Bob & Faith – The June Breeze

Filed under Columbia,Engagement Photography • Written by Daniel @ 4:32 pm

The first thing Faith did after Bob proposed to her was to find out if I was available to shoot their wedding – then she said “yes.” Of course I jest, but it was high on their priority list. Faith, you see, was the Mother of the Groom in one of my prior weddings. Her son married the very lovely Mary, who was originally from Peru. A Peruvian custom is to have the single ladies pull ribbons from the wedding cake, one of which has a ring attached. The lady who pulls the ringed ribbon is the next to get married – just like our bouquet toss. Guess who pulled the ribbon with the ring… And now, that very son will perform his mother’s wedding ceremony. It’s going to be an awesome reunion, and I can hardly wait!

We decided on a June engagement shoot downtown and finally out at Lake Murray. The steady breeze, and a great couple made the June heat vanish. A few photos from the day.

Courtney + Justin = Engagement

Filed under Columbia,Engagement Photography • Written by Daniel @ 7:30 pm

Memorial Day weekend found us shooting an Engagement Session with Justin and Courtney. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a couple of hours. Sometimes you meet a couple that have a natural flow to them. It’s an easy going style that made our time pass very quickly.

We began our day by the river, amid soft music from a free concert in the park. We ended in a secluded alcove just off of Main St. as the light just started to fade. A few photographs from the day.

Newberry Engagement

Filed under Engagement Photography,Newberry • Written by Daniel @ 9:05 pm

When I first met Misty, photography was just an occasional flicker in my brain. (She was 8 I think.. ) Now look at her. All grown up and getting married to a fine young man named Ray. Being pretty close to her family, I was thrilled when she asked if I would capture her wedding for her. And the wedding story starts in the absolutely lovely town of Newberry.
