DLP Seniors – A Happy Division of Daniel Lane Photography

With the photo sessions of the awesome JoAnna, Korynn, and Bailey, (Bailey…? I don’t see any “Bailey” here… That’s right, you can only see her on the Senior’s Blog or on DLP Seniors.) we’re creating a branch of the photography business that will cater just to high school senior portraiture.

You’ve all seen typical high school yearbook photos. Same pose, same black wrap, (and in some cases… a feather boa?), same tux. It’s what has to be done in order to get uniform, consistent photos that will all line up in those little rows in the pages of the yearbook. Doesn’t do much to capture anything of the personality of the senior. Well that’s what DLP Seniors wants to change.

Our Senior Style sessions are far more like a fashion shoot than anything else. We don’t put limits on number of locations or on wardrobe changes. The pace is fast and geared to capture the best in our seniors at this very important time in their lives.

Pop over to DLP Seniors and see what happens when we get seniors out of the little boxes.

The Baker’s Dozen Contest – (concluded)

I love my clients. They’ve trusted me to capture some beautiful and very precious moments in their lives. They’ve shared those moments, through my photographs with many of you, their friends and family.

If you don’t mind, I’d like to give a few of YOU something for free, and all you have to do to be eligible to win one of four (4) – and maybe more… – portrait sessions – worth $200.00 – is to VOTE.

Below are 13 pairs (a Baker’s Dozen) of photographs of 13 portrait and wedding clients. Each photo is numbered, 1 to 26. Simply leave a comment in this post with the photo number you wish to vote for, and you’re entered. (Only one vote, and only votes with valid photo numbers are eligible.)

If you really want to vote twice, you can pop over to my Facebook page and you can legally vote a 2nd time there. (And that enters you twice!)

We’ll get to the details of your prize later, but now, it’s time to VOTE! And remember, only comments on the blog or on the Facebook photos, count.

P.S. Vote ONCE. Just one vote. Vote only one time. Do not Vote twice, for that would be too many. One shall be the number of times to vote, and the number of times to vote shall be one. Three votes is right out! And FIVE is utterly ridiculous. One Vote only.
(You can vote ONE additional time on Facebook.)

Sarah + Brad = Engagement

My October couple is the very lovely Sarah and her loving groom,  Brad.  Rather than watch all those boring football games (all of them) Brad accompanied  Sarah out for their engagement session.  He quietly took his revenge by playfully coaxing me toward a 20 ft shear drop off,  while I tried to get the perfect shot of both of them, and later deftly failed to mention the dog poo only inches from my head during another shot.

It was all in fun and he was a great sport.  And with a bride to be as truly charming as Sarah, it’s easy to see why.

Just a couple from the day…

Madison’s 6 Month Moment

A little over six months ago we first met Madison in my Maternity shoot with Harry & Kristen. And she made her photo debut just a couple of weeks later.

We finally got together again last weekend for her 6 month Family Portrait session. What a wonderful young lady and family to spend an afternoon with!

Just a peek at some of the photos of the day.

Gavin the Great

It’s been just a tad over 6 months since you met Gavin in his newborn photos. And just a couple of weeks before that, Chad and Angie did their maternity photos with me. Time literally blows by. That gap between when I see the newborn and when I shoot the 6 month photos is far larger than it sounds.

Look back at the New Born photos, then look at a couple of shots from the day.

Fifty As A Family

Filed under Family Portraiture,Portraiture, event photography Tags: , — • Written by Daniel @ 1:09 pm

Sam and JoAnn, are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary.  It is a 50th that some feared would not be celebrated due to illness.  JoAnn, as it turns out, is a fighter.  Her granddaughter, Allison, asked me to do a family portrait, which is something this family doesn’t not have. They do now.  The effort that went into this lovely celebration was clear in every detail.  Just like Allison’s love and care for her grandmother.

Here are a few from the day.

At end of my time, I took Allison and Rick aside for a quick couples session while the celebration of friends and family continued inside.

Alicia + Phil in the Wild

Filed under Engagement Photography,Portraiture,Wedding Photography Tags: — • Written by Daniel @ 1:31 pm

I’ve been trying for MONTHS to get a couple, any couple to choose the Riverbanks Zoo as the location for their engagement session. So far, no takers. But along comes Alicia and Phil. The moment I mentioned it, Alicia was all for it. (I love a pioneer!!) So we decided that some time in the fall would be nice since it wouldn’t be 110 degrees.

Last Sunday, was the date. It was a great one. The Zoo was practically empty, and we really had much of the place to ourselves. A lot of beauty and love mixed with a little silliness and fun always creates a wonderful atmosphere. And this couple made it all work together.

A few from the day…

Note the VERY large vulture in the background just off of Phil’s shoulder. I don’t think Alicia’s expression could better!

The yellow pages ad

Filed under Ad Design,Attorney,Corporate Portrait,Portraiture Tags: , — • Written by Daniel @ 10:31 pm

In October, I was hired to shoot a portrait of local attorney, Kana Johnson. The original purpose was to have an updated yellow pages ad done. A few weeks later she sent me the ad which was created for her.

Frankly, I was a little nauseated. If you take the patter of a carnival barker and reduce it to text, this is what you get. Nearly a half dozen fonts, DMV photo (made from MY work…), clumsy alignment… It had it all.

Kana did not ask me to redesign anything, but I really could not let this be a representation of one of my clients. (If Kana is reading this, she’s probably saying, “Oh my God! My photographer is such a cheese ball!”) True, true… But she LOVED my take on what the ad should look like.

Check out the 2009 phonebook. Well, you could just have a look below. It is one of two designs I did for her.

Heavy Metal Bridal.

My October 4th bride, Faith, had a special bridal portrait in mind for her soon to be husband. She wanted it done on his Harley, in the backyard that they were preparing for the wedding ceremony.

At the wedding, this 16×20 canvas portrait was a HUGE hit. The groom loved it! Here are a few images from the day.
